Dr. José Juan Santana Rodríguez is currently Director of Institute for Environmental Studies & Natural Resources and Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) since 1998 (https://www.iunat.ulpgc.es/iunat-home). He has carried out postdoctoral stays at the University of Florence (Italy) (1986) and at the University of Florida (USA) (1990-1991). He has also been a visiting professor at eleven international universities including European, South American and Australian universities.
He is author or co-author of 160 articles in indexed journals, 242 communications to international and national conferences, 1 book and 12 book chapters (Google Scholar H index of 43, citation 5794 times). Principal investigator of 25 research projects of European, National and Regional scope and director of 13 Doctoral Theses, 6 of them awarded with the Extraordinary Doctorate Prize and 6 with the mention of European Doctorate. He has been member of the scientific committee of 18 international and national conferences and has been the general chairman of 3 international conferences. He is a permanent member of Royal Academy of Sciences of Canary Island and has been prized with the Award of the University of Las Palmas de G.C. to his scientific career.
His current research subjects are focused on: (i) Optimization, development and application of new analytical methodologies for the determination of organic pollutants in the environment; (ii) Monitoring and control of organic pollutants in the marine environment; (iii) Analysis and control of emerging pollutants and microplastics in aquatic and terrestrial systems.
