Erika E. Rios

Erika is a Research Professional II. She’ll be researching the isolation of microorganisms able to degrade Insensitive High Explosive (IHE) compounds to safe end-products and the design of strategies for IHE bioremediation. Erika got a bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering from the Technologic Institute of Durango (ITD, Mexico), and she receives her Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Sciences from the Potosino Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (IPICYT, SLP., Mexico). During her postgraduate studies, she worked with microbial reduction of arsenate, iron, sulfate, and nitrate with a focus on remediation of arsenic-polluted groundwater. Her research interests include bioprospection of bacteria with potential applications in the treatment of polluted soils and water. She enjoys jogging outside, cooking, and spending time with her family.
